DCUO: Umbral Green Aura
Character Showcase
I actually decided to and completed my first DCUO Recruitment event. As outlined in my analysis of Ultimate Recruitment 2026, I felt most of the items were not worth it for active players, but there was one unique variant item that doesn't drop anywhere else... the Umbral Green Aura, a variant of Red Umbral. I has a few days with some extra time so I put some effort into it. With all that work, I made sure to put it in the armories of my 3 green characters on the account. So let's start with that showcase!

The Event
I am a bit uncomfortable with this particular event because I have a built-in completionist complex. When I normally level a new character, I go as slowly as possible farming out every side quest, exploration task, briefing, feat, etc. I come across with while doing the main storyline. This takes weeks. The recruitment event is meant for speeding through the main storyline as fast as possible to hit the level 30 mark that triggers the reward. Players have cut this down to a science, running and deleting many characters. That is also something uncomfortable to me. Once I get a character off the ship and past the first mission, I already have him/her very customized and have an attachment to them.

| Starting up "The Shadowdragon" |
So this time around, I picked a name reservation that I plan to keep... my old name, "The Shadowdragon." And I swallowed my complex and went for the main story only, trying very hard not to do other things on the side. It is a world of difference in speed. I think the total time to do the main story is less hours than the Booster Gold Exploration series combined! Some great recent optimizations include:
- Fast movement available at level 4
- Things that can be unlocked on a fresh new character today
- Warping to mission from Journal Menu
- Cutscene skips on most dialogues
- Wolfpack/Legion unlocks
These things save time here and there and add up to quite a bit.
Future Events?
Will I do it again? Even with the optimizations, it does still take time away from the daily routine. I am not sold by the currency and materials combined with the timing of the event. But I will run it for a unique style that fits multiple alts.
