DCUO Skill Point Goals
Skill points (SP) in DC Universe Online unlock weapon combos, movement abilities, and critical stat bonuses. You earn 1 skill point for every 100 feat points collected through in-game achievements, styles, and collections. One skill point is awarded for every 100 feat points earned. You can earn feats by completing missions and tasks, collecting items and sets, fighting in a certain way and repeating things that have a counter.
Each feat gives a different amount of points:
- 1 Star = 10 Feat Points
- 2 Star = 25 Feat Points
- 3 Star = 50 Feat Points
- 4 Star = 100 Feat Points
50 @ Level 29
Through the years the beginning part of the game from Level 1 to Level 29 (aka The Tutorial) has been revamped and streamlined as the rest of the game exponentially grew. Game Update 170 in June 2026 pushed forward how early you get some skill points and unlocked powers. In the classic version of DCUO in 2011, if you casually ran Level 1-29 without any though, you would come out of it with about 30 SP, maybe even less if you skipped a lot. A completionist that ran everything once, but tried to get every single feat along the way might end up with 50-60SP. These days, each of those paths will award considerably more in a shorter amount of time because of all of the optimization. So it's fair to say that you should come out of it with 50 SP in 2026 if you tackle the tutorial with something between a casual and completionist effort. If you passed Level 29 and are able to earn 50 or more SP, then you are in better shape than most of the community that comes into the game and buys an endgame CR Advance... which only awards 70 SP to a 455+ Combat Rating (CR)... a terrible and embarrassing ratio.
100 @ Combat Rating 84
100 is always significant since it'll be your first 3-digit skill point pool. If you ran the episodes in chronological order while doing event content, you should easily have 100 by the time you're in episode 7 or 8 (see full list for dates and titles). The difficult part these days is trying to grind the older feats without jumping your CR too rapidly. Everything in the game... the programming, the algorithms etc. is pushing your CR on purpose.170 @ Combat Rating 188
170 seems random doesn't it? The significance of this breakpoint is that it was the number determined for the game to be smoothly playable in 2017 (The Stats Revamp). The current content was Age of Justice. The first build on the Test Server had characters with 150 SP and the smoothness fell a little bit short with combat stats and being able to maintain rotations without running out of power. This was shortly increased to 170, which was a fair amount that made end game combat more positive UX.So 170 is still a good number to shoot for after you get to 100, but the game in 2026 is vastly different than 2017. Back then, there were no artifacts, augments, allies, elite trinkets, etc. At CR 188 today, the game would be smooth with significantly less SP. So if you do get 170 SP by CR 188, you should feel very powerful in that tier's content.
SP > CR
After 170 SP, the next significant breakpoints would be every hundred... 200, 300, etc, but try to keep a guideline of SP being greater than CR. There are over 1000 SP in the game now, so if you're super hard core, you might actually have 2 SP for every CR. That will be pretty rare, so just making sure your SP total is always greater than your CR should be very good already. Keep in mind the CR for the upper 3 episodes and where Omnibus ends too.I previously mentioned that SP matter a bit less given the new elements added to our characters, so why keep up SP to be above CR? The effort isn't super hard and you never know what future revamps might entail. It's better to have a ton of SP (as well as other stats/currency) in reserve always.
