DCUO: Halloween Race
General
In this seasonal race, you are transformed into a bat, which can throw things off, as the timing is not the same as if you were a character with flight powers. It is full movement speed, unlike the Valentine's Day slow race. I used to ignore this part of the event years ago when it was a daily task because it took about 2 min per alt (1 min race, 30sec start + time to get the quest and go there). This time added up and the reward was only 1 seasonal mark... not worth it when you look at reward-to-time ratio. But a a few years ago, it was changed to a weekly for 10 marks... huge difference!Feats
- One Fast Bat: Earn silver medal or better (small bat trinket)
- Blinding Speed: Earn gold medal or better (medium bat trinket)
- Supersonic Wings: Earn platinum medal (large bat trinket, tintable)
Tips
Like all races, you don't want to start at the front edge of the starting circle like most players do. In a mutliplayer run, kids think that being in the front is an advantage to start. Contrary to physics it is the worst spot. If you start behind the front edge, you can actually take off a split second before you hear "go." The person at the edge has to leave after, with a starting velocity of 0. This actually applies to real life track and field and auto racing too.The bat is slightly ahead of the camera and the size of the bat as far as "hit box" is about the size of a human.... larger than the visuals. This means that if you too near an obstacle, it will take you out of supersonic speed even though it looks like you didn't touch anything.
The physics are also a little odd in that if you miss a target and/or need to make a sharp turn, you will swing very wide. You have to know where the next ring is from experience and make your move a lot earlier than it looks. Swing wide.
Flying directly down, without supersonic is just as fast as supersonic, so don't be afraid the break fast movement and dive down.
